Seishin Reviews
Carla – Southgate
I first came across Ju-Jitsu back in 2006 when I was looking for a Martial Art with a practical Self Defence application.

I’ve always been interested in Martial Arts ever since I was a young girl, being influenced by programmes as varied as The Professionals; Kung Fu; The Avengers; The Heroes of Shaolin and many, many more!
I had always been fascinated by the way the women (and men) were always powerful and independent people, able to look after themselves in any given self-defence situation and this inspired me in life to be the same.
At the time, my landlord told me about a Ju-Jitsu class just down the road from where I lived, so I took advantage of their “come and watch” motto, and did just that! – and from that moment on, I was mesmerised and hooked, and by the end of the class just HAD to join!!
Over the years, I’ve been instructed by various senseis, but one of them stole my heart in more ways than one.
Sensei John (my sensei and lifelong partner) has been an absolute inspiration to me! His knowledge and experience are top quality, and he has incredible patience and loves teaching, and this really comes across! His modesty belies his knowledge, and I hope one day to be as excellent a martial artist as he is! In the meantime, I will enjoy every class I have the privilege to share with him, in the hope that some of his knowledge will rub off on me
Vince – Harringey
My name is Vince I have joined the Ju-Jitsu team 7 months ago. I have always been very passionate about Martial Arts but I have never trained before.

When I came across the leaflet about the new Ju-Jitsu club in Southgate where I just moved in at the time I felt I had to go and see for myself.
Since then I have been attending every week consequently and it is a great experience that has shaped my life for the better.
From the beginning, I was offered a lot of support and great training from Instructor Renshi John Michell who is a 5th Degree Black Belt.
I am very grateful for the patience and attention I have received from my Instructor and also Carla who helped me from the beginning and helped me face my first doubts.
Sensei John is highly skilled and very patient and is paying a lot of attention to every detail throughout the session.
I would like to proudly share that so far thanks to the effort and hard work of my Sensei I have been able to grade to the next level, which is Red Belt.
There is a very friendly atmosphere in the club and I enjoy every minute of it and it helps to reduce the stress after all week at work.
I would highly recommend joining our fantastic Team.
Roger- Finchley
After 50 years on this earth, I’ve finally taken it upon myself to master the martial arts. Sure the voices around me, and even in my self-esteem, muttered ‘well isn’t it a tad bit too late?’, but I can now assure you that it’s never too late to explore and conquer a goal.

As soon as a good friend of mine told me about Seishin Ju-Jitsu club in Southgate I decided to jump the fence without hesitation.
I’ve not only become part of a club where I am freely and enjoyably learning, and am treated respectably, but I have also become part of a family.
Every technique I’ve previously mastered has been polished off by my good friend 5th Dan Sensei John Michell, who must have lived a thousand lives before and each of them as a ninja.
I learn something new in every session taught by him. He doesn’t give up until you got the technique stuck in your brain and he does that in a way that you enjoy.
You can also have the luxury of being taught by the highly skilled senior belt Carla Joaquim. I was really lucky to have found Seishin Ju-Jitsu club.
I truly recommend Seishin Ju-Jitsu club to anyone of any age. So come along and try one free session with no commitment, although you must be warned that you’re gonna get hooked and will fall in love with the art… it happened to me!
Ahmed – Wood Green
Hello, my name is Ahmed. I joined Seishin Ju-Jitsu about a year and a half ago, and I can assert that this is one of the best things that happened to me in life.
I have practised different sports before but decided that it would be wiser to spend my physical activity time training for self-defence.
I contacted the club on the phone, and at the stage of the free introduction sessions, I was already in love with this art.
A few weeks later I had my Gi (training uniform) and I was practising techniques I had seen only in the movies!
I had been engrossed in Martial Arts from a very early age, now, one of my childhood dreams has come true.
The instructors are very good and knowledgeable, and all the students in the club are very friendly.
Nowadays it seems that the standards of discipline and respect in society are lower than necessary, but in Seishin Ju-Jitsu they are at a very high level.
I can definitely say that the training in the club makes me much more self-confident and fit.
I would most sincerely recommend that everyone come to the club and become part of our big family. Each of us is obliged to give the sleeping ninja warrior a chance to wake up…
Agi – Tottenham
Hi my name is Agi I have joined the jujitsu club in May 2019.
I have been approached by Carla to come and see if this is something that would give me some confidence when dealing with difficult people.
I was very apprehensive at first but then I was told that I can come and watch and have a try for a couple of sessions before deciding.
It was a life changer, the techniques demonstrated to me give me not only the knowledge of how to protect myself but also makes me self-aware of the situation and skills of observation.
Within six months I have progressed to the next stage which only gives you the encouragement of wanting to achieve more.
Two sessions a week give you a great workout, and I catch myself out of breath sometimes.
I never thought I will be able to throw myself to the ground with so much confidence.
You get to train with people at different stages, it does require a commitment to see your own progress and how much knowledge you gain.

“I joined Seishin Ju-Jitsu back in 2019 and it’s fantastic.
Having years of experience with Karate I was looking for something to branch out to and this is it.
It’s been my life-long goal to get stronger and better at things and martial arts is one of them as it is deeply rooted in my life.
I was welcomed. After I was allowed to watch a session I made up my mind and decided to join.
The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. I love the sense of teamwork here.
You practice with every member of the club and you can get better at your technique. Every member has a tip to share with you and there is always someone you can learn from.
What I love about Ju-Jitsu is that it’s close-quarter combat. There is a lot of grabbing and throwing. I have noticed an increase in my strength since I joined.
Renshi John and Sempai Carla are vastly experienced and knowledgeable trainers and they are great to learn from because they genuinely want you to succeed.
I leave every lesson feeling inspired because I learned something. Every lesson is enlightening .”
